Why would I post about accounting software on an SEO blog? Well, the fact is that keeping your accounts up to date in any type of business is absolutely essential and having just been through the process of choosing a package (we decided on Sage 50 Accounts Professional by the way) its a subject fresh in my mind, so though I would add a few of the reasons why we bought it.

To be fair, any accounts software is going to include the core features which anyone needs, such as nominal ledger, sales ledger, purchase ledger, invoicing, VAT returns etc etc, but here are the reasons we bought this Sage package in particular.

Firstly and most importantly it has a project costing module, this means that during a search engine optimisation campaign, which will usually be ongoing, we can track the direct costs of the project, beyond our hourly costs, so is ideal if you are billing a monthly project and need to keep track of what you have spent yourself.

Also the Purchase Order processing means we can keep an eye on our committed costs across the business and match invoices up to them, so we don’t have any excessive paper trail to contend with when matching up the invoices (not keying them in, as that was done at the PO stage anyway). The POP was a defining factor when buying Accounts Professional, as opposed to a smaller version of the package, as only this version includes the PO’s.

Just to be clear, this is what people used to call Line 50 but it’s been renamed, but it’s still the same software, just a newer version of it, we bought version 2011, which I must say I found quite amusing seeing as it’s been bought in 2010!
